The math
How the calculator counts your drinks
The industry standard for party planning: every guest has about two drinks in the first hour and one drink each hour after that. The calculator multiplies that by your group's pace — light, medium, or heavy — then splits the total across cocktails, wine, and beer using your mix.
Drinks become purchases with standard conversions: a 750 ml bottle of spirits pours 16 shots, a liter of mixer covers about 6 cocktails, a bottle of wine is 5 glasses, and prosecco stretches to 6 mimosas. Ice, water, and snacks scale with guests and hours — the things every host forgets until the store run at 11 pm.

Common questions
- How much alcohol do I need per person?
- The rule of thumb this calculator uses: two drinks for the first hour, then one drink per hour after that, scaled by how hard your group goes. For a 4-hour party that's about five drinks per guest at a medium pace.
- How many bottles of wine for a group?
- A 750 ml bottle pours five glasses (six mimosas from a bottle of prosecco). The calculator does the bottle math for you and always rounds up, so you won't run dry mid-toast.
- What about people who don't drink?
- Count them in the guest number and dial the intensity down — or reduce the guest count and stock extra seltzers and mixers. Water is on the list regardless; hosts always underestimate it.
- Can I share the list with the group?
