What it is
TPC Scottsdale is Arizona's only PGA TOUR property, and its Stadium Course is the one you've watched on TV every February: home of the WM Phoenix Open, the largest-attended tournament in professional golf. Designed by Jay Morrish and Tom Weiskopf specifically to host that tournament, the course is built for spectators as much as players — grandstands and mounded viewing areas ring the fairways, and the par-3 16th is the famous "stadium hole," a full-blown coliseum surrounded by bleachers where the Open crowd gets rowdy every winter. Playing it yourself, minus the 20,000 fans, is the appeal: you're on the same tee boxes the pros use, with the Sonoran Desert and McDowell Mountains as the backdrop.
The club also runs the Champions Course next door, a Randy Heckenkemper redesign that's a calmer, still-desert round if half your group wants something less demanding. Both are walkable in theory but nearly everyone rides carts given the heat and pace of play.
